The Section VIII Executive Committee voted to cancel the Cross Country County Championship because of the lack of commitment to compete in the event. The decision was made due to less than 45% of the schools that qualified for the event agreed to compete and the event would not be reflective of a true county championship.
The results of the survey are as follows: (For your information, 20 teams and 20 individuals qualify for each gender).
The following have indicated that they would participate.
Boys race, there are 9 teams (45%) and 6 individuals (30%)
Teams: Oceanside, Massapequa, East Meadow, Calhoun, Mepham, Wantagh, North Shore, Lynbrook and Roslyn
Individuals: MacArthur (1), Farmingdale (1), Great Neck South (1), Herricks (1) and Hewlett (1)
Girls race, there are 5 teams (25%) and 9 individuals (45%)
Teams: MacArthur, East Meadow, Wantagh, Mepham and North Shore
Individuals: Farmingdale (3), Calhoun (2), Hewlett (2), Glen Cove (1) and Roslyn (1)
